Virtual Firewall
Restarting, Shutting Down and Powering On
If your firewall is not responding, or you need to restart it after a change, you can do it without opening a support ticket from the Power menu in the page header. The top of the menu shows the firewall's state (running or off) and how long it has been up.
Clean restart and shutdown
- Restart: the firewall shuts down cleanly and starts again. It takes a minute or two.
- Shut down: the firewall shuts down cleanly and stays off until you power it on.
We recommend using these two options first. If the firewall is not responding, the page says so and offers the options below.
Forced actions and powering on
- Reset: restarts the firewall immediately.
- Force power off: turns the firewall off immediately.
- Power on: turns on a firewall that is off; it is running again in about a minute.
Reset and force power off are like pressing a computer's reset button or pulling the plug: the firewall is not shut down properly. We therefore recommend them only when the firewall does not respond.
Good to know
- While the firewall is off or restarting, your servers lose their internet connection and VPN users are disconnected. That is why you are asked to confirm each action.
- Your rules and settings are not affected by a restart; they apply as before when the firewall is back up.
- After the command is sent, the action may take a minute or two to complete. Refresh the page to see the current state.
- Power actions are recorded on the Recent changes tab.
- If the firewall still does not work after a restart, you can open a support ticket.
