Setting Up Your Email Account in Outlook

Print

This guide explains how to add an email address you created in your Verinomi hosting account to Outlook. The settings are the same for cPanel and Plesk hosting accounts. It covers these versions of Outlook:

  • Classic Outlook (Windows): Microsoft 365, Outlook 2024, 2021, 2019 and 2016
  • New Outlook (Windows)
  • Outlook for Mac
  • Outlook on iPhone and iPad
  • Outlook on Android

Menu and button names may differ slightly between versions.

Before you start: server settings

Outlook usually finds the settings by itself; if it cannot, it asks you for the details below. Throughout this guide, replace example.com with your own domain.

SettingValue
UsernameYour full email address (for example name@example.com)
PasswordThe password of your email account
Incoming mail servermail.example.com (replace example.com with your own domain)
Incoming portIMAP: 993 · POP3: 995
Outgoing mail server (SMTP)mail.example.com
Outgoing port465
EncryptionSSL/TLS for incoming and outgoing
AuthenticationRequired for the incoming and outgoing server (same username and password)

You can also see the values for your domain in your control panel: in cPanel, with the Connect Devices button next to the address on the Email Accounts page; in Plesk, with the Mail Client Setup icon in the domain's Mail Accounts.

IMAP or POP3?

With IMAP, your email stays on the server and you see the same folders and messages on your phone, your computer and in webmail. With POP3, email is downloaded to that computer only. If you use more than one device, or do not want to lose your email if your computer fails, we recommend IMAP. Outlook on iPhone and iPad does not support POP3.

In Outlook on iPhone, iPad and Android, only email is synced for IMAP and POP3 accounts; calendar and contacts are not.

Classic Outlook (Windows)

  1. Open Outlook and go to File > Add Account.
  2. Enter your email address, click Advanced options, select Let me set up my account manually and click Connect.
  3. Choose IMAP as the account type. If you want to use POP3, you can choose POP.
  4. On the Account settings screen, enter the incoming and outgoing server details from the table above: server mail.example.com, incoming port 993 (995 for POP3), outgoing port 465, encryption SSL/TLS. Click Next.
  5. Enter the password of your email account and click Connect.

Checking or changing the settings

If you cannot send or receive email after adding the account, you can check the settings here:

  1. In the File menu, select your account from the list under Account Information.
  2. Go to Account Settings > Server Settings.
  3. Under Incoming mail and Outgoing mail, compare the server name, port, encryption and password with the table. Make sure authentication is on for the outgoing server.
  4. Save with Next and Done.

You can also reach the same settings in Windows from Control Panel > Mail > Email Accounts. Select the account and click Change; in the More Settings window:

  • On the Outgoing Server tab, My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication must be selected.
  • On the Advanced tab, under Server Port Numbers, the incoming server must be 993 (995 for POP3) and the outgoing server 465, with SSL/TLS selected as the encrypted connection type for both.

After clicking OK, you can use Test Account Settings to see whether Outlook can send and receive a test message. You should see a green check mark for both steps.

If you changed your email password in the control panel, you also need to enter the new password in Server Settings; Outlook cannot connect with the old one.

New Outlook (Windows)

  1. On the View tab, click View settings, or on the File tab, click Account info.
  2. Go to Accounts > Your accounts.
  3. Under Email accounts, click Add Account, enter your email address and click Continue.
  4. If Outlook finds the settings by itself, it asks for your password; enter it and click Done.
  5. If the settings are not found, Outlook asks for the server details; you can enter the values from the table above.

If the account cannot be added in new Outlook, you can try the classic Outlook steps instead.

Outlook for Mac

  1. Open Settings from the Outlook menu at the top of the screen.
  2. Select Accounts in the side panel and click + Add Account. If you already have an account in Outlook, you can also reach the same screen from Tools > Accounts.
  3. Enter your email address, click Continue and follow the prompts. If you are asked for server details, you can enter the values from the table.
  4. If a screen asks for access, click Allow, then Done.

Outlook on iPhone and iPad

  1. In the Outlook app, go to Settings > Accounts > Add Account > Email Account.
  2. Enter your email address and tap Add Account.
  3. If the Select your email provider screen appears, tap IMAP.
  4. Enter your password and turn on Use Advanced Settings.
  5. Enter the incoming and outgoing server details as in the table and tap Sign In.

Outlook on iPhone and iPad does not support POP3 accounts, so use IMAP. If you do not see a separate port field, you can add a colon and the port after the server name: mail.example.com:993 for the incoming server and mail.example.com:465 for the outgoing server.

Outlook on Android

  1. In the Outlook app, go to Settings > Add Account > Add Email Account.
  2. Enter your email address and tap Continue.
  3. When asked for the email provider, tap IMAP. If you want to use POP3, you can choose POP3.
  4. Turn on Advanced settings and enter your password and the server details from the table.
  5. Tap the check mark to finish.

If you do not see a separate port field, you can add a colon and the port after the server name (for example mail.example.com:993).

If you cannot connect

  • Username: it must be the full email address, not only the part before the @ sign.
  • Password: you can try the password by signing in to webmail (webmail.example.com). If you cannot sign in to webmail either, you can reset the password in your control panel; you then need to update it in Outlook as well.
  • Server name and ports: they must match the table exactly, with SSL/TLS selected as encryption.
  • Outgoing mail: if you can receive but not send email, check that authentication is on for the outgoing server and that the port is 465.

If you still cannot connect after these steps, you can open a support ticket from your client area. Including your Outlook version and the error message you see helps our team help you faster.

The Outlook steps are taken from Microsoft's official support pages (support.microsoft.com).
