How to Upgrade MariaDB in Plesk on Linux
Plesk recommends using the current long-term support (LTS) version of MariaDB on your server. Old database versions are a security risk; new versions are more stable and faster. From Plesk Obsidian 18.0.60, you can upgrade MariaDB from the Plesk interface.
Before you start
- Your Plesk version must be 18.0.60 or later.
- The feature is not available in Plesk on CloudLinux.
- The upgrade is usually error-free and takes about 10 minutes; during it, Plesk and your websites are unavailable. Upgrade during your websites' off-peak hours and back up your server first.
Upgrading
- Open Tools & Settings > Database Servers (under Applications & Databases).
- Click UPGRADE NOW in the MariaDB row and choose the version Plesk offers. Plesk runs the pre-upgrade checks.
- So that you can recover your databases if something goes wrong, Plesk asks you to confirm two things: that you can connect to the server over SSH and that you can open the Repair Kit extension. Open both in a new tab and keep them open until the upgrade finishes, then select the corresponding checkboxes.
- Keep the Back up all databases hosted on the server before the upgrade checkbox selected. Before the upgrade, Plesk backs up your databases to
/var/lib/psa/dumps. - Click Upgrade, and Finish when it is done.
If you are running MariaDB 5.5, Plesk upgrades it to 10.5 first; repeat the steps once more to reach the current LTS version.
If you do not see the button
Plesk is rolling the feature out to administrators gradually. If you do not see the UPGRADE NOW button, add these lines to /usr/local/psa/admin/conf/panel.ini and reload the page:

If you use CloudLinux or need to upgrade manually, see Plesk's manual upgrade guide or open a support ticket.
