Domain Transfer: Requirements and Steps

Print

You can move a domain registered with another provider to Verinomi. The domain stays yours during the transfer; only the provider that manages it changes. This guide explains the requirements, the steps and how .tr domains differ.

Before the transfer

  • 60-day rule: At least 60 days must have passed since the domain was registered or last transferred. A transfer request before then may be rejected (for .tr domains it is rejected).
  • Transfer code: You need the transfer code from your current provider. For extensions such as .com and .net it is called the EPP or Auth code; for .tr domains it is called the authorization code (yetki kodu). Your provider is obliged to give you this code.
  • Transfer lock: The transfer lock at your current provider must be turned off. For extensions such as .com and .net, if you cannot turn it off in their panel, your provider must remove it within 5 days of your request.
  • If the registrant changed: For extensions such as .com and .net, a provider may apply a 60-day transfer lock after the registrant details are changed. If you plan to both change the registrant and transfer, we recommend completing the transfer first.
  • Cannot be transferred: Frozen .tr domains, and domains subject to a dispute, a court order or a transfer dispute.

Step by step

  1. Turn off the domain's transfer lock in your current provider's panel.
  2. Get the transfer code from the same panel. Some providers show it on screen; others send it to the registrant's e-mail address.
  3. On the Verinomi Domain Transfer page, enter the domain and the transfer code, click Add to cart and complete the order. After logging in you can add several domains at once from the Bulk transfer tab.
  4. Your current provider is notified when the transfer starts. If they do not reject it, the transfer completes by itself; approving the confirmation e-mail sent to the registrant can speed it up.

How long does it take, is the term extended?

Extensions such as .com and .net.tr domains
CompletionThe transfer completes if the current provider does not reject it within 5 days.If the current provider does not respond within 24 hours, the transfer is considered accepted.
Registration termExtended by one year (the total term cannot exceed 10 years).Unchanged; the remaining term continues as is.
Current provider's fee—The current provider may not charge for the transfer.

The extra year added with the transfer may not apply to some extensions and to domains renewed recently.

.tr domains

.tr transfers run through TRABİS. You request the authorization code on your current registrar's website; the registrar must give it to you immediately and may not withhold it for reasons such as an outstanding balance. The transfer request is sent to the current registrar; if there is no response within 24 hours, it is considered accepted. The allocation term of the domain does not change with the transfer.

Why can a transfer be rejected?

  • The transfer code is wrong (for .tr domains, the transfer does not go through if the code does not match).
  • 60 days have not passed since registration or the last transfer.
  • The transfer lock is still on.
  • The domain is frozen (.tr), or there is a dispute or a court order.
  • Your current provider may reject the transfer in cases such as a dispute over identity, suspected fraud or an unpaid previous period.

Your current provider may not reject the transfer because of unpaid fees for a future period, because they could not reach you, or by keeping the domain locked without giving you a way to unlock it. You can restart the transfer once the issue is solved. If you get stuck, you can open a support ticket from your client area.

Transferring from Verinomi to another provider

You can find how to turn off the transfer lock and get the transfer code for your Verinomi domain in Verinomi Panel: Managing Your Domains.
