Nextcloud
Installing the Android App, Syncing Calendar and Contacts
With the Nextcloud app you can reach your files from your Android phone or tablet and upload your photos and videos to Nextcloud. To sync your calendar and contacts, the DAVx⁵ app is used as well.
Installing the app
You can install the Nextcloud app from Google Play or from F-Droid. Push notifications do not work in the F-Droid version; if you want notifications, we recommend the Google Play version.
Adding your account
You can use either of two ways:
- Log in with the address: open the app, enter your Nextcloud address (example: https://bulut.sirketiniz.com) and continue. On the login page that opens, log in with your username and password and grant the app access. If two-factor authentication is on, you also enter the verification code.
- Log in with a QR code: log in to Nextcloud from the browser on your computer, create a new app password on the Settings > Security page and show its QR code. On the phone, tap the QR scanner icon on the Nextcloud app's login screen and scan the code.
Using the app
- You can browse your files by folder, upload, open and share them in the app.
- In the app settings you can turn on automatic upload of your photos and videos to Nextcloud and choose to upload only over Wi-Fi.
- When you remove the account from the app, the copies on the phone are deleted; your files on the server stay in place.
Creating an app password
For programs that connect directly, such as calendar and contact sync, we recommend using an app password for this device instead of your Nextcloud password; it is required if two-factor authentication is on for your account. Log in to Nextcloud in the browser, open Settings from your profile icon at the top right and go to Security. Under the list of devices and sessions, enter your device as the app name (example: iPhone) and create a new app password. Note the username and password shown; the password is displayed only once, on this screen. When you no longer use the device, you can remove its access from the same list.
Syncing calendar and contacts (DAVx⁵)
Install the DAVx⁵ app from Google Play (for a small fee) or from F-Droid. Then use either of two ways:
With the Nextcloud app:
- In the Nextcloud app, open the menu and tap the option to sync calendars and contacts.
- DAVx⁵ opens and shows the Nextcloud login page; log in and grant access.
- When asked how contact groups are stored, choose Groups are per-contact categories.
- Allow DAVx⁵ to access your calendar and contacts, and tick the calendars and address books you want to sync.
Without the Nextcloud app:
- In DAVx⁵, tap the + button and choose Connection with URL and username.
- Enter https://bulut.sirketiniz.com/remote.php/dav as the address, your Nextcloud username as the username and the app password as the password.
- For the contact group method, choose Groups are per-contact categories and create the account.
If two-factor authentication is on for your account, you cannot connect with your normal password (you see an error such as "Unknown resource"); you need to use an app password.
